Best Apps for iPhone Duo: 12 Apps Updated for the Foldable
The best apps for iPhone Duo, each with proof of Duo support: what Netflix, Prime Video, Things 3, Flighty, Omniphile and others do on the 7.6-inch screen.
- TV shows
- Games
The short answer
- The best apps for iPhone Duo are the ones rebuilt for its 7.6-inch inner display. As of October 27, 2026, they include Netflix, Prime Video, MLB, Things 3, Fantastical, Spark Mail, Flighty, Sky Guide and Asphalt Legends.
- Every app on this list has written evidence of iPhone Duo support: its App Store release notes, Apple’s October 22 newsroom story on apps for the device, or both.
- Omniphile is our pick for tracking movies, shows, books, audiobooks and games: since version 4.7, a movie, show, book or game page opens into two panes on the unfolded Duo.
- Apps that haven’t been updated still run, but on the open Duo they keep a familiar iPhone size instead of filling the screen. Apple marks optimized apps with a Made for iPhone Duo badge on the App Store.
- Split View puts two apps side by side on the inner display, and you can open a second window of the same app or save pairs of apps for later.
The best apps for iPhone Duo are the ones rebuilt for its 7.6-inch inner display: Netflix and Prime Video for watching, Things 3, Fantastical and Spark Mail for work, Flighty for travel, Asphalt Legends for play, and Omniphile for tracking what you watch, read and play. Each has written proof that it was updated for the Duo.
Apple’s first foldable iPhone went on sale on October 23, 2026, and many apps run on it without having been redesigned. So we included an app only when its App Store release notes or Apple’s own story on apps for the device say what it does on the Duo, and we cite that source for every pick. We make Omniphile, so weigh that pick accordingly, and we haven’t tested the other apps on the device ourselves. Everything here was checked on October 27, 2026.
What changes for apps on iPhone Duo
iPhone Duo has a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner display, and it ships with iOS 27.1. It starts at $1,999 in the US.1 Closed, apps get the same size classes as on other iPhones. Open, they get an iPad’s: regular width and regular height, with room for sidebars and several columns.2
iOS also moves things around. On the Duo, Apple says, “app navigation and controls now appear on the side,” and the Dynamic Island is redesigned to fit vertically along the edge.1 The tab bar, toolbars and back button stand in a column beside the content instead of across the top and bottom. The open Duo keeps horizontal bars only when you hold it upright, where there is height to spare.3

Multitasking comes to the iPhone as well. Split View opens two apps side by side on an iPhone for the first time, and you can open a second window of the same app, such as Safari for comparison shopping, or save pairs of apps to come back to later.1 Apple’s own example is browsing Photos on one side and dragging a picture into Mail on the other.4
Apple says its built-in apps are optimized for the Duo, though it describes only a few of them in detail. Siri AI, which Apple is rolling out in beta, can stay open beside another app so you can ask about what’s on screen, and the Apple TV app uses the larger canvas for movies and series.56
Apps that haven’t been updated still run. Apple’s developer guidance says that on the open Duo such an app keeps “a familiar size and aspect ratio,” and on the closed Duo it uses the space to the left of the status bar and camera.2 Apps built with the iOS 27 SDK resize as you fold and unfold, and the iOS 27.1 SDK lets them fill the whole display with the new side bars.7 A new hinge API also tells an app the angle of the fold, so it can change its layout when the Duo is half open.6
To spot an app that has done the work, look for the Made for iPhone Duo badge on its App Store page, or for the Duo in its release notes.6

How we chose these apps
- Written evidence of iPhone Duo support. Every pick has App Store release notes that mention the Duo, or a description in Apple’s newsroom story “Developers bring incredible new app experiences to iPhone Duo” from October 22, 2026.6 For Netflix and Prime Video, Apple’s story is the evidence, because their current release notes don’t mention the device. The App Store’s compatibility list proves nothing here: almost every app lists the Duo as a supported device.
- Available now. We left out apps whose Duo version is still to come. Apple says Microsoft Word and Outlook will roll out their larger layouts “in the coming weeks.”6
- A change you can name. We favored apps whose developer or Apple says what is different on the Duo, not just that it is supported.
- Range. The picks cover watching, listening, work, travel and games, plus Omniphile, our app, for tracking.
- Prices come from each app’s US App Store listing on October 27, 2026.
The 12 apps, and what each does on iPhone Duo
Streaming
Netflix
- Platforms
- iPhone, iPad and other devices
- Price
- Free; needs a Netflix membership
Apple’s story on apps for the Duo highlights Netflix’s Clips. You scroll through them on the outer display, then open the phone and keep watching on the inner one, with each clip switching between a vertical and a horizontal view.6 The app itself is free, and the listing says a Netflix membership is a month-to-month subscription.8
Best for: Watching series and films, and browsing short clips with the phone closed.
Strengths
- Browse Clips on the outer display, then open the phone to keep watching
- Clips switch between vertical and horizontal views
Drawbacks
- Needs a paid Netflix membership
Streaming
Prime Video
- Platforms
- iPhone, iPad and other devices
- Price
- Free; Prime or Prime Video membership
Prime Video has a layout for the half-folded pose. According to Apple, when the Duo is partially folded, the video plays on the top half of the display while X-Ray details, such as the cast and bonus content, appear on the bottom half.6
Best for: Watching with the phone half folded on a table, with the cast and extras below the picture.
Strengths
- Half folded, the video plays on the top half
- X-Ray details, such as cast and bonus content, fill the bottom half
Drawbacks
- Its included catalog needs Prime or a Prime Video membership
Sports
MLB
- Platforms
- iPhone, iPad and other devices
- Price
- Free; optional subscriptions
MLB’s release notes say the app was optimized for iPhone Duo, “introducing a redesigned tab bar along with dynamic Live Activities and scoreboard layouts adapted for every orientation.”9 Apple describes a pose made for it: set the Duo on a table partially folded, and the live game plays on the upright half while real-time stats fill the lower half.6 The app is free, and its listing says watching every out-of-market game needs a subscription.
Best for: Following live games and scores, with the phone standing on a table.
Strengths
- Set it half folded on a table: the game above, live stats below
- A redesigned tab bar and scoreboards for every orientation
Drawbacks
- Out-of-market live games need a subscription
Our pick for media tracking
Omniphile
- Platforms
- iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch
- Price
- Free; optional Premium subscription
- Tracks
- TV shows
- Movies
- Books
- Audiobooks
- Games
Omniphile is our app: one library for movies, TV shows, books, audiobooks and games, with shows tracked episode by episode, books by readthrough and games by playthrough. Version 4.7, released on October 27, 2026, is the update for iPhone Duo, and its App Store release notes say Omniphile “now runs natively” on the device.10
Open the Duo in landscape and a movie, show, book or game page splits at the fold. The artwork, title, your rating and the status button stay on the left half, while the details scroll on the right: a show’s next episodes and episode list, or a game’s playthroughs, logged sessions and your review. A book keeps its cover in the left half. Each half is laid out like a phone screen, so nothing is stretched across the crease. The logged sessions also help with planning a backlog against a date, such as the games to play before GTA 6.
Hold the Duo upright and half folded, and the page’s header fills the top half down to the fold, with the details starting below it. Bend it like a book, and poster grids, from your library shelves to your queues, keep an even number of columns centered on the fold, so no cover sits in the crease. The download is free, and the optional Premium subscription adds iCloud sync, release alerts and the Apple Watch app.
Best for: Tracking every show, film, book, audiobook and game, with a whole page in view on the open Duo.
Strengths
- Movie, show, book and game pages split into two panes at the fold
- A layout for the half-folded, upright pose
- Poster grids keep an even number of columns, centered on the fold
Drawbacks
- iOS and iPadOS only, with no Android or web version
- iCloud sync, release alerts and the Watch app need Premium

Podcasts
Overcast
- Platforms
- iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch
- Price
- Free; optional Premium
Overcast 2026.10.1 brought “layout improvements for iPhone Duo and iPad” and more space in the now-playing screen for transcripts, show notes and chapter lists.11 On the inner display, that means you can follow an episode’s transcript or chapters while it plays. The app is free with ads, and Overcast Premium removes them.
Best for: Listening to podcasts while following the transcript or chapters.
Strengths
- More room in the now-playing screen for transcripts, show notes and chapters
- Layout improvements shared with iPad
Drawbacks
- Shows ads unless you buy Overcast Premium
Tasks
Things 3
- Platforms
- iPhone; iPad, Mac and Vision Pro sold separately
- Price
- $9.99
Cultured Code’s release notes for Things 3.25.1 are the most detailed we found. Things “reshapes itself to make the most of every pose”: closed, open, folded like a book, or sharing the screen with another app in Split View. Unfold it and a new sidebar shows all your lists. The controls, including the Magic Plus button, sit in a bar down the right side of the screen, and a connected keyboard gets Things’ full set of keyboard features.12 Apple’s story also names Things for making task management simpler with everything on screen at once.6
Best for: Planning your day with every list in view when the phone is open.
Strengths
- A sidebar of all your lists when the Duo is open
- Controls in a bar down the right side, within reach of your thumb
- Adapts to every pose, including Split View
Drawbacks
- A one-time $9.99 on iPhone, with the iPad and Mac versions sold separately
Calendar
Fantastical
- Platforms
- iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch
- Price
- Free; optional Flexibits Premium
Fantastical 4.2.4 “added support for iPhone Duo,” and Apple says it “shows calendars, tasks, and menus together on the larger display.”136 The app is free to download, and its listing says the extra features of Flexibits Premium require a subscription. Cardhop, the contacts app from the same developer, also added Duo support this month.14
Best for: Seeing your calendars and tasks together on the larger display.
Strengths
- Calendars, tasks and menus together on the inner display
- Duo support listed in its release notes
Drawbacks
- Extra features need a Flexibits Premium subscription
Spark Mail
- Platforms
- iPhone, iPad, Mac
- Price
- Free; optional Plus and Pro plans
Readdle says Spark is “ready for iPhone Duo from day one.” Its release notes describe the inbox and the open message side by side, the same actions and content whether the Duo is closed, open or partially folded, and more room for reading, writing, search and the calendar when it is unfolded.15 Apple’s story doesn’t name Spark; its release notes are the evidence here.
Best for: Reading and answering email with the inbox and the message side by side.
Strengths
- Inbox and open message side by side
- The same actions closed, open or half folded
Drawbacks
- Collaboration and Spark acting on your behalf need the Pro plan
Flights
Flighty
- Platforms
- iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch
- Price
- Free; Flighty Pro
Flighty’s release notes are short: it is “ready for iPhone Duo,” and during a flight you can “prop iPhone Duo up like a tent to follow your progress hands-free.”16 Apple describes the same thing as a dedicated flight-tracking mode for when the Duo is propped up.6 The listing says Flighty Pro is free on your first flight.
Best for: Following a flight from your tray table without holding the phone.
Strengths
- Prop it up like a tent to follow your flight hands-free
- A dedicated flight-tracking mode for that pose
Drawbacks
- Pro is free only on your first flight
Astronomy
Sky Guide
- Platforms
- iPhone, iPad
- Price
- Free; PLUS and PRO upgrades
Sky Guide 13.1 is “optimized for iPhone Duo, beautifully expanding as you unfold the display for a broader, more immersive view of the universe,” and Apple’s story picks out its edge-to-edge star maps with Liquid Glass controls.176 The app is free; its PLUS and PRO tiers are in-app purchases.
Best for: Finding stars and planets on a star map that fills the inner display.
Strengths
- Star maps that expand as you unfold
- Edge-to-edge maps with Liquid Glass controls
Drawbacks
- PLUS and PRO are paid in-app purchases, up to $249.99 for lifetime PRO
Racing game
Asphalt Legends
- Platforms
- iPhone, iPad
- Price
- Free; in-app purchases
Gameloft’s update notes say Asphalt Legends is “now optimized for iPhone Duo.”18 Apple describes races against up to seven online opponents, with “detailed cars and dynamic lighting filling the inner display.”6 The game is free, and its listing warns that it contains in-app purchases, including paid random items.
Best for: A fast game that fills the whole inner display.
Strengths
- Detailed cars and lighting fill the inner display
- More than 350 cars and up to seven online opponents
Drawbacks
- In-app purchases, including paid random items
Apple Arcade game
Sneaky Sasquatch
- Platforms
- iPhone, iPad
- Price
- Included with Apple Arcade
Sneaky Sasquatch 2.2.1 “now supports iPhone Duo.”19 Apple says it and Retrocade, another Apple Arcade game, deliver “a uniquely immersive experience when opened” and “convenient pick-up-and-play fun when closed.”6
Best for: Apple Arcade subscribers who want a game made for both ways of holding the Duo.
Strengths
- Immersive when open, quick to pick up when closed
- Duo support listed in its release notes
Drawbacks
- Needs an Apple Arcade subscription
More apps updated for iPhone Duo
These apps also have Duo support on record, as of October 27, 2026, but either their notes don’t say what changed or they overlap with a pick above:
- Book and TV trackers. StoryGraph 1.25 is “now ready for iPhone Duo,” and Sofa Time 7.7.1 added “support for the new iPhone Duo.”2021 Our best book tracking apps and best TV show tracker apps compare them with Omniphile in detail.
- Watching and listening. Infuse 8.5.9 “added support for iPhone Duo,”22 and Pocket Casts 8.23.2, which its developer calls “getting ready for the iPhone Duo,” shows several columns of podcasts in Discover and a side-by-side full-screen player on supported devices.23 Apple also names Paramount+, with richer playback controls and expanded browsing for shows and live channels.6
- Work. Apple names Zoom, which turns the inner display into a video conference room showing shared content and other participants together, and Slack, which “brings a user’s whole workspace into view.”6
- Cooking and the outdoors. Apple says NYT Cooking shows more detailed recipes with richer visuals.6 Tide Guide added a solunar layout designed for the Duo, and Night Sky lists “full iPhone Duo support and optimization.”2425
Which iPhone Duo apps should you install first?
- You watch a lot of TV and films: Netflix and Prime Video. Try Prime Video half folded on a table.
- You follow baseball: MLB, standing half folded, with the game on top and the stats below.
- You track what you watch, read and play: Omniphile, which turns a show, movie, book or game page into two panes.
- You run your day from your phone: Things 3, Fantastical and Spark Mail. Things also adapts when it shares the screen in Split View.
- You fly often: Flighty, propped up like a tent on the tray table.
- You want a game that shows off the screen: Asphalt Legends, or Sneaky Sasquatch if you already have Apple Arcade.
- An app you rely on isn’t listed: it still runs. Check its App Store page for the Made for iPhone Duo badge or its release notes for the update.
iPhone Duo has only been on sale since October 23, and more updates are on the way: Apple says Word and Outlook arrive in the coming weeks. Until an app you use is updated, it keeps working at a familiar iPhone size.

Common questions
- Which apps are optimized for iPhone Duo?
- Apple’s October 22, 2026 newsroom story names dozens, including Netflix, Prime Video, Zoom, Slack, Fantastical, Things, Flighty and Asphalt Legends. On the App Store, optimized apps carry a Made for iPhone Duo badge on their product pages, and many mention the device in their release notes.
- What happens to apps that aren’t updated for iPhone Duo?
- They still run. Apple says that on the open Duo such an app keeps a familiar iPhone size and aspect ratio, and on the closed Duo it uses the space to the left of the status bar and camera. Apps built with the iOS 27 SDK or later resize as you fold and unfold.
- How does Split View work on iPhone Duo?
- On the inner display, Split View opens two apps side by side, the first time an iPhone can do that. You can also open a second window of the same app, such as Safari, and save pairs of apps to come back to later.
- Does Omniphile support iPhone Duo?
- Yes. Omniphile 4.7, released on October 27, 2026, splits movie, show, book and game pages into two panes on the open Duo, has a layout for the half-folded upright pose, and centers poster grids on the fold. It costs nothing to download, with an optional Premium subscription.
- When did iPhone Duo come out?
- Apple announced iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026, opened pre-orders on October 16, and started sales on October 23 in more than 70 countries and regions, including the US. It reaches 28 more on October 30, starting at $1,999 in the US.
